In the last 10 years there have been an overwhelming amount amp and cab sim pedals released into the market and made widely available. The majority of these are feature packed, sound great and are a welcome addition to any pedalboard.
At its most basic level an amp and cab simulator pedal is designed to take the place of a traditional guitar amp. It makes for happy sound engineers when the guitar player can't secretly (or not so secretly) create more stage volume than the FOH speakers can contend with. An amp sim means less gear to lug around and a consistent, reliable sound. Although a mic'd tube amp at high volume can never fully be replaced, the current offering of amp and cab simulators are coming closer and closer every year.
There has to be an outlier in this saturated market. An amp and cab simulator that does a better job than the rest. For Goodwood Audio, there can only be one.
Our Favourite Amp/Cab Sim is - Strymon Iridium.
Our favourite thing about this Amp/Cab sim is its simplicity. It's small, easy to power and makes sense right out of the box. Yes, there are additional features hidden within, powerful midi control and you can load IRs, but the biggest takeaway - it sounds incredible.
1. Easy To power
2. Simple to use and understand
3. Small form factor
4. Sounds Realistic w/ onboard amp/cab choices
5. Powerful Midi Control
6. Room size is easy to control / adjust
7. Headphone output
8. Stereo or Mono operation
1. Doesn't have balanced outputs
2. Not as feature packed as other units on the market (this is one of our favourite things about it, but isn't for everybody)
3. Midi is over TRS, not a traditional 5 pin midi cable.
