Using an Amp Simulator? Check this out…

Hi/Lo i/o can work with real tube amps or amp sims. If using an amp sim, plug it in at the end of your signal chain right before Hi/Lo i/o’s Left and Right inputs. Now you can send signal from Hi/Lo i/o’s outputs to a DI or DAW or even to LongLine mounted on the SAME Creation pedalboard (see diagrams below).

Simply turn off your amp sim when you want to run to tube amps!

*If you want to run tube amps and amp sim at the same time - check out how Hi/Lo i/o makes this easy in the wiring diagrams below!*

SUMMING WITH Hi/Lo i/O

  1. Using a stereo pedalboard: Run stereo into the Left and Right inputs — get true stereo signal out of the left and right outputs.

  2. Stereo to Dual Mono: Hit the Sum pushbutton — Now the left and right inputs are merged. This merged signal is sent to both left and right outputs.

  3. 2-Channel Line Mixer: Use Hi/Lo i/o as a two-channel line mixer. Send two different signals - a dry and wet signal as an example - into the Left and Right inputs, respectively. These signals will now mix and send the mixed signal out of the left and right outputs

  4. Mono Input to All Outputs: Plug into Left input only — Hi/Lo i/o will buffer and split this signal to both the left and right outputs.

GROUND LIFT & PHASE CORRECTION

 1. Ground Lift:  A ground loop sounds like a loud buzz in your rig when you're running more than one output! Now you can easily get rid of these annoying noises by pressing Hi/Lo i/o’s black LIFT pushbutton.

2. Phase Correction: Fix phase cancellation between amps or amp sims by pressing the red Phase button. This inverts the polarity of the right 1/4" output by 180 degrees. This works well for amp sims and tube amps alike!

HOW TO CONNECT Hi/Lo i/O

Using With An Amp Simulator

If you run one or two amp simulators on your board, put Hi/Lo at the very end of your signal chain. Send signal straight to your DAW or Sound Desk via a stereo DI while correcting any ground loops or phase issues. Want to go back to stereo tube amps? Turn off your amp sim and plug straight into your amp inputs.

Using With Stereo Tube Amps

If you run one or two tube amps, put Hi/Lo at the very end of your signal chain. Send signal in stereo (sum pushbutton out) or dual mono (sum pushbutton in) to two tube amps or to one tube amp in mono (sum pushbutton in) while correcting any ground loops or phase issues.

True Dual Mono

If you’re running a mono pedalboard (instead of stereo effects) - you can still have fun with mixing different amps. Maybe you want to try a vox and a fender, a dumble and a marshall but you still want a mono pedalboard. This is the way to do it!
Set your DIP switches to split sum (See the summing page), push but sum pushbutton ‘in’ and now your left input will send signal to both the left and right outputs!

Want to use Tube Amps and Amp Sim at the same time? Only with Hi/Lo

Let’s say you need a couple of extra buffered outputs on your board, but don’t have the space or junction boxes to pull it off. You can use an insert cable on the left and right inputs of Hi/Lo to gain access to additional buffered sends. The most common example I see using this technique is sending to tube amps while simultaneously sending to an amp simulator. Now all 4 outputs can be used at the same time (see diagram below). These outputs are always stereo and are pre-summing circuit. They are not affected by anything else in Hi/Lo. See block diagram for signal chain.
